Apples and Pears - our 2 year olds
EYFS Introduction
We now follow the New Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum (EYFS 2021). We were already an early adopter school last year so we are well prepared for the changes. We will also use the guidance of the new 'Development Matters Revised 2021'.
During our time in the Reception class we learn the importance and joy of being part of our school community, by joining in with school routines and events. By the end of the year we are confident, independent and firmly established within school life.
Curriculum Subjects
During the day we learn through play, exploring and discovering from all the learning areas in our classroom.
These 7 learning areas include:
Prime Areas - Three areas are particularly important for building a foundation for igniting children’s curiosity and enthusiasm for learning, forming relationships and thriving.
These are the prime areas:
• communication and language
• physical development
• personal, social and emotional development
Specific Areas - As Providers we also support the children in four specific areas, through which the three prime areas are strengthened and applied.
The specific areas are:
-
literacy
-
mathematics
-
understanding the world
-
expressive arts and design
-
Reading is a very important part of the Early Years curriculum, so we spend a lot of time enjoying listening to and joining in with a variety of stories. A strong grasp of phonics helps us to become independent readers.
